Clean, Fix, Transform Your Audio

Per-file technical audio editing with fast turnaround. Noise reduction, pitch and tempo changes, vocal extraction, trimming, merging, and format conversion — starting at $39.

What This Service Is

Quick technical audio edits — the "menu item" service for when you have a specific problem and need a fast fix.

Audio Editing is our entry-level service for per-file technical work. Unlike our production or mixing services, this is not a creative undertaking — it is a precise technical task executed on your existing audio file. You send us a file, tell us exactly what you need done, and we return it processed and ready to use.

This covers everything from simple trims and format conversions to noise reduction on live recordings, vocal extraction for remix or karaoke purposes, and pitch-shifting a track to a new key. Each task is quoted individually based on what you need, with standard pricing across three tiers based on complexity and turnaround time.

Think of this as the audio equivalent of a tailor — you would not go to a tailor just to chat, but when you need a hem taken up or a waist taken in, they do the job fast and correctly. We are the same for audio. Send your file, describe the problem, and we fix it.

What We Can Do

Each task is priced per file. Complex jobs that span multiple edit types fall into higher tiers.

$199 Commercial

  • Heavy restoration / damage repair
  • Vocal extraction / isolation
  • Multiple output formats/versions
  • Complex multi-step processing

Important Limitations

  • Vocal extraction is an AI-assisted process. Results vary significantly depending on the source material — a dense rock mix will separate less cleanly than a sparse acoustic track. We are upfront about what is and is not possible with your specific file. If a clean extraction is not achievable, we will tell you before you pay.
  • Heavy restoration has limits. If a recording is severely clipped, distorted, or recorded in extremely noisy conditions, we can improve it but may not be able to restore it to studio quality. We will assess and give you an honest preview before proceeding.
  • This service covers technical editing only. For creative work like full arrangement, mixing, or production, please see our other services.

Common Use Cases

I have a live recording with background noise

Live recordings often pick up crowd noise, HVAC hum, mic hiss, and room reflections. Our noise reduction process cleans up steady-state noise and can significantly improve clarity. For extreme cases, we will tell you what is achievable before you commit.

I need to change the key for a performance

If a backing track or instrumental is in the wrong key for your vocal range, we can pitch-shift it up or down. Modern pitch-shifting algorithms preserve audio quality surprisingly well within a few semitones. Larger shifts may introduce artifacts — we test and let you know.

I need to speed up or slow down a track

Change the tempo of a track without affecting pitch, or change pitch without affecting tempo. Useful for practice tracks, dance performances, or fitting a song into a specific time slot. Standard tempo changes hold up well; extreme changes may degrade quality.

I want to extract vocals from a song

AI-based vocal extraction can separate vocals from an instrumental to varying degrees of success. Clean pop productions with centered, clear vocals yield the best results. Dense rock or electronic tracks with heavy reverb are harder. We provide both the extracted vocal and the remaining instrumental.

I have audio files in the wrong format

We convert between all major formats: WAV, MP3, FLAC, AIFF, AAC, OGG, and more. We can also batch-convert multiple files, adjust bit depth and sample rate, and ensure files meet platform-specific requirements for streaming or distribution.

I need a recording trimmed and cleaned up

Remove dead air, trim intros and outros, splice multiple takes together, normalize volume, and apply basic fades. Simple edits that make a recording presentable — perfect for demo submissions, audition tapes, or podcast segments.

What You Provide

Audio File(s)

Send us the original file in the highest quality you have. WAV or FLAC is ideal. MP3 is acceptable but we cannot restore quality that has already been lost to compression. For noise reduction, higher-quality sources yield better results.

Description of Work

Be specific. "Remove the background hiss" is better than "make it sound better." "Raise the key by 2 semitones" is better than "change the key." Clear instructions mean faster turnaround and fewer revisions.

Desired Output Format

Tell us what format and quality you need the final file in. If you need multiple formats (e.g., WAV for archive and MP3 for upload), specify all of them up front so we can quote accurately.

Audio Editing FAQ

Can you remove background noise completely?

We can significantly reduce steady-state noise — things like hiss, hum, air conditioning, and electrical buzz. Transient noises like door slams, coughs, and chair squeaks are harder to remove cleanly without affecting the wanted audio underneath. The result depends heavily on the source material. A recording with mild hiss will clean up beautifully; a recording made next to a running engine will be improved but not made studio-perfect. We always assess your file and set expectations honestly before you pay.

How well does vocal extraction work?

AI-based vocal extraction has improved dramatically in recent years, but it is not magic. Clean, modern pop productions with centered, dry vocals typically extract very well — you get a usable instrumental and a clear acapella. Dense rock, metal, or electronic tracks with heavy reverb, stereo-widened vocals, or layered harmonies will produce artifacts. The extracted instrumental may have faint vocal remnants, and the acapella may sound slightly processed. We test your specific track and give you an honest assessment before proceeding. If the result is likely to be poor, we will tell you and may suggest a Backing Track Remake instead.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, AAC, OGG, and most common audio formats. For editing and restoration work, we strongly prefer uncompressed or lossless formats (WAV, AIFF, FLAC) because MP3 compression discards audio information that cannot be recovered. If all you have is an MP3, we can still work with it — just be aware the ceiling for quality improvement is lower.

How fast can you turn this around?

Basic edits (trim, convert, merge) are often turned around same-day or within one business day. Standard processing takes 1-2 business days. Pro restoration and complex multi-step jobs take 2-3 business days. Rush delivery is available for a 30-50% surcharge and can get most jobs done within 24 hours. We confirm the exact timeline when we quote your job.

Can you fix a badly recorded file?

We can improve almost any recording, but we cannot perform miracles. A clipped (distorted) recording cannot be un-distorted — the information above the clipping threshold is gone forever. A recording made with a phone microphone in a noisy room can be cleaned up but will never sound like it was recorded in a treated studio with a Neumann. We are direct about this: we will assess your file, tell you what improvement is realistic, and let you decide. There is no charge for the assessment.
